Attic Studio, Bodmin

A loft conversion of two halves, creating a pair of distinct and flexible working spaces linked by an open staircase and bespoke hemlock balustrading.

The aim was to create a long, open-plan office and guest room on one side, paired with a more intimate art studio on the other. By maximizing the available footprint, we delivered an adaptable and functional space perfectly suited for the family’s professional work and personal creative use.

A lot of structural preparation went into this long narrow attic space; we reinforced every truss with steels to allow us to introduce a joisted floor, and trimmed out for staircase with structural timber before installing the new staircase.

The roof was insulated from below and new wiring installed throughout before the entire space was plaster boarded, plastered and decorated. Custom made eaves cupboards were built along the entire length of the of the house, and some recessed shelf storage was added to the main office area to maximise functionality.

The clients chose a cork floor which lends subtle softness and warmth to the space, and we built a bespoke curved birch plywood desk to perfectly fit the space.
