New Build Annexe, Lostwithiel

We were asked to design and build a two-bedroom annexe to accommodate a family member into his later years.

The layout is simple with an open plan living space in the centre, flanked by two bedrooms, each with an ensuite. The resident is an artist and wanted a light and airy living space for painting. Large French doors, windows and veluxes in the vaulted ceiling flood the room with light.

The client loves timber and specified that he wanted no plaster or paint and as little plastic as possible in the building. We rose to the occasion incorporating an aluminium window package, varnished OSB walls, timber beams across the vault, oak floors and custom made birch ply window reveals, skirting and architraves.

The entire annexe is built on ground screws, meaning that there was no need for heavy plant, excavation or concrete.  It is super-insulated to the current Building Regulation standards, making it very energy efficient to run.

Our team worked really hard on this project alongside sub-contactors to achieve a beautiful, high performing building. We love how lashings of extra character has been added as it has become a true home and sanctuary for its artist resident.
