A modern extension to an old Cornish stone cottage.
What this old Cornish cottage lacked in space, it oozed in charm and character. The extension is a bold modern addition, creating a clear divide between old and new, whilst maintaining the character of the original part of the building. The single storey timber framed addition added 60sqm of living space, with a new dining room, entranceway, utility room, bedroom and ensuite.
Original stone walls were left inside the new rooms, enhancing the connection between old and new.
A muted palette and solid pine floor complement the natural materials of the old cottage, while the ensuite adds a surprise splash of Moroccan luxury.
The showstopper of the dining room is the enormous glazed sliding door in slimline aluminium, supplied by the ever tip-top Green Circle Bespoke Glazing. The fixed pane forms a huge internal window between the dining room and entrance hallway, which floods the building with light whilst maintaining separate spaces.
The entire extension and integrated deck is built on ground screws, which enabled us to leave the original foundations and root systems of large nearby trees entirely undisturbed. We use ground screws frequently, particularly when installing our HUSK Pods.
We couldn’t have built this project without the help of our brilliant team, and of course our specialist suppliers and subcontractors.
